Qualifications: Prevention of Extremism and Terrorism

About this course

Forming part of the suite of crime prevention/counter terrorism qualifications offered by the Police Crime Prevention Academy, this Level 3 National Vocational Qualification Prevention of Extremism and Terrorism focuses on how practical crime prevention approaches can be used to demonstrate and start to embed compliance with Martyn’s Law and help to support a locally co-ordinated approach to preventing crime and countering terrorism.

This national vocational qualification is accredited by the awarding body ProQual and requires work-based evidence to achieve it.  It can be accessed through local delivery and national delivery.

The Academy is just one initiative belonging to Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, a not-for-profit police owned organisation, self-funded through its prevention activities.

How will this qualification help me?

  • You'll learn about the current threats posed by terrorism and extremist behaviour and the Protect UK app, and you’ll complete the Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) online qualification.

  • You'll gain knowledge about best practice to mitigate such threats in relation to local publicly-accessible venues, SMEs, etc. for which your area of work has a responsibility by using the Onion Peeling process, the Building and Area Search and the HOT principle.

  • You'll learn about the actions to be taken in the event of an incident using the 4C's model, the ETHANE model and Emergency First Aid.

The National Vocational Qualification is recognised by UK employers and will be of benefit to:

  • Local Authority team leaders in work areas such as community safety, environmental health, emergency planning and business continuity, inclusion and place planning
  • Team leaders from other relevant partner agencies

What’s involved?

Upon completing two days of learning either via Teams or in person, you’re provided with learner support over a 4-month period to help you compile work-based evidence for assessment.  You then receive your ProQual Prevention of Extremism and Terrorism e-certificate.
