Qualifications: Crime Prevention for Practitioners
About this course
Forming part of the suite of crime prevention qualifications offered by the Police Crime Prevention Academy, this Level 4 Certificate in Crime Prevention for Practitioners, evidences and underpins the competency of practitioners who provide specialist crime prevention advice.
This is a National Vocational Qualification accredited by the awarding body ProQual and requires work-based evidence to achieve it. It can be accessed through national delivery, local delivery and a pathway that recognises prior experience and learning (RPEL).
The Academy is just one initiative belonging to Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, a not-for-profit police owned organisation, self-funded through its prevention activities.
How will this crime prevention for practitioners qualification help me?

You'll understand the theories about why crime happens, the relevant legislation and policies, and how to apply the SARA model to local crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) problems.

You'll gain knowledge about testing, certification and standards associated with security products and the police-preferred specification, and the crime prevention advice that can be accessed via the Secured by Design website.

You'll learn how to conduct an effective security survey of residential and non-residential properties, how to recommend security products that are appropriate, realistic and cost effective, and the legislation that underpins the survey process.

You’ll learn how to conduct an Environmental Visual Audit (EVA) based on the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CEPTED) and in conjunction with partner agencies and the local community.

You’ll understand the elements of an effective crime prevention initiative and review a nationally endorsed initiative.
The National Vocational Qualification is recognised by UK employers and will be of benefit to:
- Crime prevention specialists and police team leads
- Local Authorities and Fire and Rescue
- Organisations involved in supporting safer communities
This is the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) mandated qualification for those in specialist Police Crime Prevention roles.
What’s involved?
Upon completing five days of learning either via Teams or in person, you’re provided with learner support over a 7-month period to help you compile work-based evidence for assessment. You then receive your ProQual Crime Prevention for Practitioners e-certificate.
